It's been 5 months since I last wrote.
I keep going back & forth between if I want to blog or not.
I think I will to kind of have something to look back to when I want to remember something fun in my life. It's easier to write in then a journal (plus that's a place where thoughts I don't necessarily want people to know about are in). So I'm gonna try it again.

June Update:
It's funny to think that I can't even remember what we did in June. This is what I do remember:
I worked with Alec & Garrett.

Luke & I went to the nicest, most expensive restaurant in Marysville for our 3 yr. Anniv. Of course, we had a gift certificate but Luke splurged for the most inexpensive wine. =) We enjoyed our fancy & delicious meal along with an appetizer (ONE crab cake) & dessert (cheesecake). Before our dinner, I attempted to golf with Luke. He did a nice job & honestly was so patient w/ me & my lack of skill.

I played sand volleyball 2 nights a week & we both played in our church softball league. Actually, at one point, I'd like to say that I made the winning catch! Ha. I'd like to think so. But really, I did catch a few balls. You have no idea how big of a deal this is for me. Haha.

Dad was with us for the first 2 weeks of June. He got to see me play softball & we had some fun times together with Levi in the warm summer sun!

Towards the end of June, Luke's Aunt Liz & Uncle Tony came & visited us for the morning. We took pictures in front of the parsonage & kind of caught up on what we've been doing. It was nice that they stopped by & visited.

July Update:
Really we left for Fl June 29th after our softball game. We drove Dad's hot little yellow convertible through the night & arrived in FL about 1130am. I don't know how dad drives in that tiny vehicle! We're a lot shorter then him & we were struggling for space! You wouldn't believe how Luke packed the trunk of this Saturn Sky. He put all our luggage (clothes, shoes, bathroom stuff, beach stuff) AND 2 homemade Cornhole boards in the minimal space that was given.
1st part of FL-The Villages! It was really great. Dad gave us a tour of the large, gated "village", took us to some yummy restaurants (seafood), & even took us out for a night of music (twice!) & summery drinks. It really was enjoyable & I know how proud Dad was of his new place of residence. Now he is very involved in all the activities that the Villages has to offer. Luke golfed his heart out on the $5 all you can golf courses. luke & i even played on a professional golfer's course! arnold palmer. we really had a nice time.
2nd part of FL-New Smyrna Beach w/ the Streeters & Dad-Luke isn't one for laying on the beach doing nothing...but I am. Give me some sunscreen (if i'm smart) & a book & I'm all set! Basically, that's what we did here. I got to play with my nieces & nephews, which I always love. We all played corn hole together (even Jake-he's awesome at it) & horseshoes on the beach. We ate Rock Shrimp & clams & other random seafood pieces (alligator!) at J.B.'s Fish Camp (a place we've been going to since I was 9?). Another neat part about this stay at our time share was that Grandma Schaaf (my mom's mom) & my Aunt Gail, cousin Elizabeth & 2nd cousin Xia came to visit. Really loved seeing all of them too.

OK, gotta finish later. Took me all day at work to post this (a little here little there)

It's been 3 weeks, but I'm back.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo...
busy month of May, yikes.

It's been unpacking boxes for Dad & me who tried to help when & where I could.
It's been crazy, but this past weekend went suprisingly well. My whole family was there, siblings, aunt/uncle cousin & dad. We looked through ALMOST everything, I couldn't believe it. We didn't fight over any items that we treasured. I was again, suprised. Also, we had time to visit & play cornhole & drink summer brew. I loved playing with my nieces & nephews. The other big thing that happened this past weekend is that Joshua, my nephew, & now Godchild, was Baptized. I am very proud & honored to be his Godparent. We got to celebrate that too.
So the weekend-success! Now Dad & I are preparing for the Moving Sale next week. Plus putting things on Craiglist etc. Getting organized for the Sale is the biggest part though. June 4-6th!
Some other things that have been going on:
Luke played at Little Tony's again on May 9th & will play again on May 30th.
I joined 2 sand volleyball leagues on Tues & Wed nights. That makes me happy, because I miss playing. the first league i'm on w/ friends & the second league i'm w/ strangers, but they are all nice so far!
My friend's husband graduated from Boot Camp for the Army-please pray for him & her because they have been apart since Feb. & will be until Sept. at least.
We practiced for the new softball league we're in-I really stink at it, but I'm getting slightly better each time I play...I hope.
Luke hosted the St. John's athletic banquet. It was really great & well put together. I had to give a speech for my 7/8 gr. volleyball team & got through it ok! We had an awesome season (Undefeated in league, League Tourney champs, and ohio lutheran tourney champs!) Just had to add in our victories there. luke had to talk throughout the whole thing & i'm worried about one little speech! he had a lot more pressure on him than me!
Luke surprised me while my family was here w/ a Buster Bar cake & singing happy birthday. he knew that would make me happy to do that while my whole fam was there. it was very sweet.

ok that's all for now! gotta go!

Other Life Details...

*Wednesday, April 29th-Luke played @ Open Mic night in Columbus again. But I was mad he didnt' get to play very long! The other band kind of took over in the beginning...which left LB little time. Dad, Theresa & Jonathan got to come too & beforehand we went to a little Irish pub in Dublin to get discounted 10 oz. burgers-$3.50! W/ crispy chip fries douced in vinegar! yum!

*Friday, May 1st Luke had his Annual Walk-a-thon Fundraiser @ local metropark. He said it went well...yet there are always a few glitches, of course. I know he was super stressed about it, because of all the work that was put into it, plus when the t-shirts didn't come out the way he'd asked, that was dissapointing too because he designs & puts a lot of time into them. I think they look great though! And even though I wasn't @ the walk-a-thon I know he did an excellent job putting it together. he was so exhausted from the past couple of weeks with finalizing the plans for it (plus going to happy hour), he slept from 7pm-ish until the morning came! That shows he's pooped when he sleeps on a Friday night (we're usually out!)

*Saturday, the special occasion was going to the Mother/Daughter Banquet @ St. John's. I invited a lady from work, who didn't go, but I took her 3rd grade daughter, Hannah. She was so polite & I was glad to be w/ her there. The other people who came were Angie & her daughter Kylie & Regena. Angie is the mother of Garrett, the little boy I help as my part time job. (The program they are doing for Garrett is the Son-Rise Program, go here for more info: http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/, it's an awesome program). Kylie is her 7 yr. old daughter. Regena is my good friend who I used to work w/ @ Creekview School. She was my mother for the afternoon & an amazing woman. I was glad all of them could come! 2 years old when I was invited by a lady from church, I was really lenient about going to it. I thought it was going to be really hard to be there etc. I feel like I've come a long way since that 1st M/D Banquet w/o my Mom...this time at the banquet, I felt sad of course, but I also felt proud that I had a mother who loved so much! She would have loved going to these banquets w/ me & vice versa.

*Saturday night, the three of us (LB, Dad, me) went to our friends house to watch the Bulls/Celtics play. I haven't watched that much an NBA game for a long time. We also played Bonanza w/ everyone there w/ the Bonanza board that Luke's dad made for us for Christmas one year. We love it.

*Sunday...church, boxes, work...then Luke had his first church softball game. They won! Also on Sunday (Luke couldn't make it) Dad & I went to or Bible Study/ChristCare grp. It was the beginning of Rick Warren's study on the 40 Days of Love (author of the 40 Days of Purpose). I'm not sure what people or Pastors think of Rick Warren...this is my first time ever doing one of his studies...but the first 2 lessons of 40DofL were really good. Let me know what you think.

Lesson One:

Key Verse-1 Corinthians 14: 1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. (NLT Let love be your highest goal!)

1) Love is the Supreme Value in life. (Matthew 22:37-39, Galations 5:14)

-Get the message: relationships-love-is what matters most in life.

-Human love wears out, but God's love lasts forever.

2) Love is the Primary Objective of life. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

-If I don't live a life of love nothing I...say, know, believe, give, accomplish...will matter.

*Words w/o love are worthless.

*Brilliance w/o love equals zero.

*Faith w/o love does not matter.

*Giving is not necessarily loving.

*Relationships are more important than accomplishments.

3) Love is the Greatest Power in life. (1 Cor. 13:13, Ephesians 5:2)

-God has shown us how to leave a lasting legacy-fill your life w/ love.

Putting It Into Action:

-Show love to someone you haven't shown love to recently in an unselfish way!

PRAYER: Thank you, God, for loving me in spite of my imperfections. I have to admit that as hard as I try, I have difficulty loving some people. Help me trust you for the power to love. Lord, I turn to you for wisdom as I focus on one person to love this week. Help me to show that I love you by loving others. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Lesson Two:

Key Verse-1 Cor. Love is Patient, love is kind.

The Secret to Patience:

You Cooperate w/ God. (Romans 5:3-4) He has part & you have a part.

-God's part is to provide the Circumstances.

-Your part is to provide the Response.

3 Things Will Help You Respond w/ Patience

a) Discover a Bigger Perspective. (Proverbs 19:11)

b)Deepen Your Love. When you're filled w/ love, almost nothing will irritate you. But when you're filled w/ anger, almost anything will irritate you.

c) Depend on Jesus' Power! (Colossians 1:11)

*Patience is about Attitude. Kindness is an action. Kindness is not just a belief, it's a behavior.

The Secret to Kindness:

Kindness is Love In Action.

4 Lessons from the Good Samaritan

a) Start Seeing the Needs of people around you. (Luke 10:33, 1 Cor. 10:24)

*Kindness begins w/ the eyes.

*Become more aware & more observant.

*Why don't we see the wounds of the people around us? Busyness. Busyness is the death of love! Slowness=Love (Listen, have time for others)

*Do I see the needs of others? Rate yourself.

b) Sympathize w/ people's pain. (Luke 10:33, Galations 6:2)

*Sympathy begins w/ the ears.

* Eyes, ears, then heart.

*Do I listen to the needs of others? Rate yourself.

c) Seize the Moment (Luke 10:34, Proverbs 3:27-28, 1 John 4:18-Never walk away!)

* The Good Samaritan did what he could with what he had at that particular moment.

*To be a kinder person like the Good Samaritan: -You must be willing to be Interrupted.

-You must be willing to Take Risks.

*Fears: Take up too much of our own time, helping others might remind us of our own pain

*Do I quickly respond to a need when I see it? Rate yourself.

d) Spend whatever it takes. (Luke 10: 34, Isaiah 58: 7-8, 11, Psalm 103: 8)

*There is always a cost to kindness. Time, Energy, Money, Patience, Reputation...etc.

*Kindness is doing something for somebody w/o expecting anything in return.

Putting It Into Action: Rather than passing by someone who needs a 'good samaritan'...reach out to that person this week & do a specific act of kindness.

Ok, obviously I had a lot of time on my hands @ work this Friday afternoon...=)

But it's important to know & challenge yourself to love through Christ!

Ruth's Email

From a Dear Friend:

Shari,

I read your post but was unable to comment so I am sending this to the only Hub email addresses that I have.

Allison and I thought about "Aunt Lindy" on April 24 with laughter remembering her famous burp in NYC. We have it on tape. When we prayed at dinner, we did "hand up, hands out, hands together" (they did before snack every day in preschool) in honor. (Actually we still do that at least once a week). I was thinking how proud she would be at the decorating of my bedroom. when it was all done I sat back and said "LindE, how do you like it?" I felt confirmation.

As you go through a house full of wonderful memories and tearful moments, treasure each one. You are such an awesome family!!!!! You helped us through a miserable time. Linda helped me clean out my house and held me as I cried. She is an amazing woman and has 4 amazing children (even if some went to Michigan State). And Shari, thanks to you, I get the honor of sitting through days and days of volleyball. I am thankful that she has you for such a wonderful mentor. Thanks for posting to our blog.

And Bruce, I am amazed that you are taking these huge steps. The Villages will never be the same now!!!!

One day we will all reunite in Heaven and shout the shout of VICTORY! He is Risen indeed!

Update on House & Life

Since the weekend of April 25th, Dad has been going through (w/ some help but he is ultimately the bearer of this 'burden') the vast amounts of items from his house. Dad sometimes gets in a funk wondering whether what he's doing is a waste of time or he's not accomplishing too much. Lately he's been very positive. But think about what he has to do...& also wants to do. The things that he's going through are from his life, the past 20-30 years & more. While it may be hard to dig through the dirt & grime of an old garage, trying to figure out what he's actually accumulated over those years, he's doing it with a pretty darn good attitude. I am proud of him for making these steps for himself. While sometimes, I can frustrated too...I remember that what I am doing is out of love for my father & my family. I actually feel bad because I can't help him enough, because of 2 jobs plus still continuing on w/ my life while he's here. In June...he wont' be here & it will be few & far between when I will see him regularly while he's in FL. Sometimes Dad gets on my nerves or we don't agree on something but it all works out in the end. Our goal is to get the items somewhat organized before the whole family gets here on the 22nd of May. Then 2 more weeks after that, we will have the enormous garage sale. It is helping to get everything organized now in preparation for not only family but for the sale. Now all we need is a million tables to put everything on! If we do not get it all organized before family...that is ok. We are doing our best w/ the time & energy we have. I mean, it's literally a house full of stuff packed away. I will be proud of our accomplishments & my dad's, when we have finished & we see an empty garage & closets & trailer (that we are putting stuff on).
Please still pray for patience etc. as we embark farther into the garage! =)

House Full of Memories

Did I mention this?

Titus left our house Friday afternoon & my dad arrived Friday night (we found out he'd be @ our house early through reading his blog the day before. haha. Thanks for the heads up, Dad! But we are thrilled because now he can teach 4 20 minute sectionals to the kids of St. Johns at their annual walk-a-thon this Friday, May 1st! ;)

We miss Titus & won't see him until August because he will be in Africa hunting off wild animals. Well, really he'll be in Africa but hopefully not being threatened by lions & elephants.

So, since my dad arrived we've been discussing ways to organize the ENORMOUS amount of stuff here. It's not just stuff to me though...or other family members. It's ALL the contents of my parents' house in MI. It has been stored here for about a year because we have lots of storage space in the old Parsonage we live in. So now is the time where we organize & sort & figure out who gets what or who actually wants what. But also we'll be remembering lots of things. Things we made, things Mom picked out at an antique store, books we read, etc. While we definitely need to work hard to get things organized, it'll be hard to not relive some memories. It will happen a lot the weekend of Memorial Day because all my siblings & spouses and my Aunt FiFi, Uncle Bob & cousin Alusha will be here! So my Dad & I (& Luke too w/ his good insights & box/container carrying skills) will be getting things straightened out so that it will be ready for them to 'browse' through. People will be keeping, deciding what can be thrown out, & the rest will be sold @ a garage sale(& Craigslist of course) our house the first weekend in June. Lots to do! But it's already been fun this weekend looking through things & putting boxes to the side that we've already organized! Hope this pace keeps up. Any suggestions on organizing & going through literally a whole house full please let us know!

PS. Prayers are always good too =)

PPS. Luke's sister is having her 3rd girl in September!!!

PPPS. Speaking of babies, Chris & Sarah are pregnant again & are due in November!

PPPPS. This weekend it was 80 degrees for 3 straight days in OH! It's awesome! Snow next week?!

Hocking Hills, Ohio

I never thought I'd see a waterfall in Ohio...but surprise! I did. Hocking Hills, Oh-April 17th-19th, 2009
Haven't written about it yet...
But it WAS a super fun trip. Things we did:
Hiked a total of 8 miles at least
Stayed in a 'log cabin' (no we didn't rough it this trip)
Ran through a waterfall (& hung over the edge-basically!)
Enjoyed the sunshine
Had many funny convos
Made our own meals
Played games
Soaked in a hot tub @ our cabin
Walked across a natural rock bridge
Basically had a slumber party w/ great friends (& brother Titus-who's always a friend of course ha)
I thought the weekend was EPIC (ongoing joke).
Some pics of the prettiest part of Ohio that I have seen:

Daily Devotions from Lutheran Hour MinistriesBy Pastor Ken Klaus, Speaker of The Lutheran Hour®

"It Is Well With Your Soul"
April 24, 2009
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
The salvation story of Jesus Christ reaches around the world. So that the readers of our Daily Devotion may see the power of the Savior on a global scale, we have asked the volunteers of our International Ministry Centers to write our Friday devotions. We pray that the Spirit may touch your day through their words.
In Christ, I remain, His servant and yours,Kenneth R. KlausSpeaker of The Lutheran Hour

When I first heard the story of the famous song, "When Peace Like a River," I asked myself why is it that God allows His people to go through such sufferings and calamities. What will our friends and relatives say about God when things go bad for us?
The songwriter of the well-known song had a similar experience, and this is what influenced him to write the song. He was a lawyer who had amassed wealth through his labor but lost all his properties through a fire. Surprisingly, his trust in God was not affected a bit. As if that was not enough, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of his daughters died in a collision with another ship. His wife survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone."
What a tragedy! What a calamity in the life of a Christian. When he received the message, he was never worried about his trust in His God but wrote the wonderful song which said, "Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul."
Amazing as it may seem, God has truly taught us to say, "it is well" when we encounter unfortunate circumstances. He promises us in His Word that He told us these things, so that we may have peace. In this world we will have trouble; however, we should take heart because Christ has overcome the world through His perfect life, His sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection. What a comforting and refreshing message for all of us as we are going through troubles.
We need the Word of God to strengthen us each day of our lives so as not to lean on our own strength but to put all our trust in the Lord who will guide our paths. In this regard, when calamity befalls us, we are sure God will empower us and we can also say, "It is, indeed, well with my soul."
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, strengthen us each day by Your Word and help us to put our trust in You always. Amen.

The Doellingers in WI

Luke, me, Melissa, & Paul @ the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee, WI

Dad & Mom Bickel

From Good Friday until Friday the 17th Dad & Mom Bickel have been visiting us. They got to spend their whole Spring Break right here in Marysville, OH! Titus arrived on Monday, the 13th & is here until this Friday. I know how much they appreciated being w/ their two youngest sons. I'm sure it's been a long time since they'd spent that much time w/ Ti & Luke at the same time. It's harder as you get older & if anyone would love that time spent w/ family it would be Dad & Mom B. While they were here we did a lot of things.
Let's see...we went to Good Friday Service & early Easter Service (& they have great voices, which get complimented on after each service!)
We got raccoons out of the chimney, made a huge ham dinner & had 2 leftover meals w/ the ham. yum. they also put MORE ham in the freezer w/ a frozen bone for soup! double yum. They went grocery shopping for us while we were at work, always kept milk stocked up, helped w/ every meal (ok did 95% of the meal preparation!) & took our car in for an oil change. Mom Bickel came & watched me (&others) play volleyball @ our open gym night. Dad Bickel watched L & T play basketball the same night. We had our own little superfans! Dad B & Lukas played golf on one of our few gorgeous weather days. That same night Mom B & I took a nice sunshine-y bike ride.

They supported L & T during their Open Mic night, throughout the noise.

We also just had a lot of fun hanging out w/ each other, chatting, laughing. It was actually really nice having them here for that week. I looked forward to coming home to them after work(no offense Luke!) & a nice meal & figuring out what we were going to do that night.
So thanks to them for their help & love.

Musical Brothers

Much has happened since last Tuesday, but just a quick little note to say that Lukas & Titus played @ an Open Mic night in @ CBR's in Columbus last Wednesday & sounded awesome!
If anyone knows how to put video from a camera to the computer please tell me, then you could hear them (& see the baby racoons!). It was really cool to see L & T playing together. Lukas played the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, & a 12-string guitar. Titus played the electric violin & acoustic guitar. They both sang of course too. They pulled this 45 min. of playing together in 2 short days! Very impressive & very jealous of their musical gifts. At least I get to enjoy them!

Few songs they played:
Intro Song (sorryLB..i forget the original name)-Northbound (their high school band)
Long Black Veil-Johnny Cash
#41-Dave Matthews Band
Grey Street-Dave Matthews Band
(Forget the Name of It too...)-Death Cab For Cutie
The Color Rose-Titus Bickel
You Don't Know How It Feels-Tom Petty

I know I'm forgetting some but hey, that's pretty good for me to remember that much!
We thought up the name T-Rex (Titus & Lukas Rex together)...but I'm thinking it's not gonna stick.

Uncle Kurt & Baby Raccoons

2 Things that are totally unrelated to each other:

1) Please pray for family of our Great Uncle Kurt Bickel. He was in his 80's & passed away last week. A great witness to the Lord. I, of course, did not know him very well. But that is what I remember about him from seeing him 2 years ago at the Bickel Reunion. Another memory I have of him there is when he sang, "The Lamb". He sang it w/ such emotion & faith. Brought many to tears...

2) Definitely not important but funny. Our dog Levi led us to find a mother raccoon & 5 baby raccoons hanging out in our chimney. We smoked the mother raccoon out (she booked it!) & Varment Guard had to come & get the 5 little babies out. They were probably only about a week ago the exterminator said-no eyes opened & barely able to move! You'd think they'd be cute as little ones, but I did not see any cuteness about them except their exceptionally small size (about 2-3 mice put together). I did take pictures but this is not one of them, but an example of what they looked like from the internet (except this one says it's 1 day old...but maybe the ones we found were!):

Super Spring Break 2009

HAPPY EASTER. Jesus is Risen!
Ti, Luke, Me, Paul & Melissa (not in WI, this was a while ago)
April 3rd-present:
Union Grove, WI- Visited w/ Paul & Melissa. Did lots of stuff. Bowled (girls beat the guys...twice), made mini pizzas & TGIFriday's Jack Daniel's Grill Sauce (tasted just like it! Go to www.topsecretrecipes.com to find many favorite restaraunt recipes!), took our picture by a giant ear of corn carved out of wood, ate delicious, huge cinnamon rolls @ a local bakery, went to their local diner, went to ComedySportz (which was hilarious, wish i could go more often http://www.comedysportz.com/), played Rock Band, went to the Miller Brewery tour & found a picture sweatshirt for Paul that said, "Horsebreakin', heartbreakin', Cowgirl". It's not really that funny unless you were there. But really, who would own a sweatshirt that says that?!
We are thankful for a super time w/ them.

The last leg of our trip we went to Racine, WI to visit 2nd cousins of Luke. There are more of them but we saw Abby, Julie & Nate Bickel. We ate their best pizza in town & had a famous Wisconsin Kringle (both fattening & scrumptious). Luke & Abby got to play some music together, which is what they both love to do. Any chance Luke gets to play, he has this glow about him! I wish I were musically gifted! I live vicariously through Luke. We got to tour the Lutheran HS where Abby went & where Julie & Nate work. It was a very nice Lutheran HS. Oh, we also watched Abby & her JV soccer team in the freezing WI wind! Yikes! Thanks for the blankets.

Sooo we got back on Wednesday & got ready for Mom & Dad Bickel on Friday! They arrived safely. We went to the Good Friday service on Friday, Saturday went shopping for Easter Sunday dinner etc. Saturday night, my dad stopped by for the night & church. It was good for him to stop by as I haven't seen him since Christmas! (also Mom & Dad Bickel!) He had a big boot on his foot because he tore/stretched his Achilles tendon. Ouch. Sunday went to Easter service & Luke & I sang in the Choir. Easter services are always the best, as far as the joy of celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord & Savior Jesus in an intense way! Mom & Dad B cooked up a great feast (Luke & I minimally helped...they are just so good @ it & I don't mind when someone wants to take over the kitchen! ha) We give all the credit to them & loved the meal. Easter day was so relaxing & I think I took a total of 3 naps. how sad is that! haha but I loved it. I think everyone else enjoyed relaxing too while watching the Masters! It was actually fun to watch some 'exciting' golf. Titus arrived here today safely! They'll be here all week! whoohoo!

Choir Song-See What a Morning
See, what a morning, gloriously bright, With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem; Folded the grave-clothes, tomb filled with light, As the angels announce, "Christ is risen!" See God's salvation plan, Wrought in love, borne in pain, paid in sacrifice, Fulfilled in Christ, the Man, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead! See Mary weeping, "Where is He laid?" As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb; Hears a voice speaking, calling her name; It's the Master, the Lord raised to life again! The voice that spans the years, Speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us, Will sound till He appears, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead! One with the Father, Ancient of Days, Through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty.Honor and blessing, glory and praise To the King crowned with pow'r and authority! And we are raised with Him, Death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered; And we shall reign with Him, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!

Bold Student

Yesterday at work, the students were doing an assignment for Social Studies. It was on Buddhism. Remember these are students who have challenges, but are very high functioning. One of the students came up to me & said, "I don't want to do these 2 questions." I told him that he needed to because you can't just skip 2 questions to an assignment whenever he feels like it (basically). He was very adamant about not wanting to answer them. He eventually did...but after some thinking I remember that he has very strong Christian beliefs. It's not everyday that you see this openly in a public school! When I finally check his answers, they say, "I am not interested in the beliefs of Buddhism. I am a Christian & do not believe in Buddhism." What a strong faith for a 6th grader! Granted, he'll learn that there are many things he will have to learn about that he doesn't want to...but it was so refreshing to hear a child say firmly what he believes & stick to it! We need more people in the world like this boy. We know the truth & will stand by God's Word. Thank you, Tommy, for your faith in Christ & your courage to show it!
The funny part of this story is that at the end of one of his answers he put, "And if you don't like it you can call my mom & dad." Haha.

Bickel's First BLOG entry

Well, it's April of 2009. I was a little weary of starting a blog & being termed the name of 'blogger'. I am starting it because it's a nice way to keep up to date & also I know you can get free stuff from posting stuff on your blog so I am going to be waiting for an invite for freebies. =) haha. You know we love free stuff.

Here are a list of things that have been going on @ Lukas & Shari Bickel's household:

-Lukas is still working @ St. John's Lutheran School in Marysville, OH. He teaches 5-8th grade history & 3-8th grade P.E. Also, being the Athletic Director keeps him the most busy!

-I am a teacher's aide @ the public 5/6 grade school-Creekview for emotionally disabled children. For my part time job, I work w/ children who have autism & emotional problems as well. Right now I am consistently working for a little 5 yr. old boy & his family.

-Levi is going to be 10 years old in July. He's still super active & we love him & his energy! And he still loves us even when we don't have any energy left at the end of the day. gotta love dogs!

Sooo, every so often (don't expect an every day kind of thing, unless I'm feeling like sharing something) I'll be writing on here. (don't expect Luke to blog either haha).

Lastly...

I'm going to write about something recent that happened since that's the thing to do:

March 27th-March 29th

Titus (Lukas' younger brother) came to visit! We had a blast w/ him & some local friends. He came to our place this weekend because he needed to move most of his items in to our place, because in the fall he will be living w/ us while he goes to Ohio State University (boo). Seriously though, it's a great school & it's awesome that he got accepted there. Ti has served his last 5 years as a Ranger in the Army. So now he has his own bedroom in the Parsonage @ St. John's w/ us! Just some cool news.

Our Spring Break starts this Friday & we have it packed already. But that's good. We will be going to WI to visit our friend's Paul & Melissa who are on vicarage there. We're pumped! We'll also get to see some Bickel cousins as well-always a pleasure & good time. Then we'll get back Wed/Thurs & get ready for Mom & Dad Bickel & Titus to join us for Easter! We'll also get to see my dad on Saurday night, possibly Sunday morning.

It's crazy w/ our family/friends all living so far away...we miss them so much. But it makes our time that much more treasured because of it. Oh no, I'm sounding all bloggy now!!! Bye!

Keep up to date =)
